that the evidence was sutlicient
and also the notice, and that the

In the matter of the Southern
Pacific Co.'s demurrer to the com
plaint filed by the boaid in the
matter of rates, the demurrer was
overruled and the company given
until Friday to tile an answer.
The demurrer was also overiuied
in the case of the Union 1'ocitic
and the company given until
Fiiday to answer. The attorneys
for the company expressed their
inlentiou ol answering. Hie
Union Facific case as well as the
Southern 1'acific, now come upon
the comp'aiiit of the commiss.on-

On Monday
forenoon, Walter Byron, Bailey
and Henry Morris, arrived in town.

body of John L. Williams, which
lhy had found close to the mouth
of Catching slough. When they
discovered the f-kiff on the uiud
tlat, the shoulders and right foot
of deceased were hang:ng over the
side cf the skiff, immersed in the
water, the body being held in this
position by the left leg, which wai
caught under the forward seat.
Coroner Bulter was notified, and
immediately took charge of the
remains. The deceased was born
in Manchester, England, and came
to America in 1873, and to Coos
Bay in 1874. He was 54 years old
and leaves a wife to mourn his
loss.
