Congressman Bynuin wa in

Hon. J. K. Weatherford., and
at once entered upon bis
speech. He spoke in glowing
terms of Oregon and tbe West,
and without further preliminaries

Uriff.
He said the republican party
had changed its principles on this
question, and stated that Garfield
was a free trader, while the re
publiaua were now-a-days more
vigorous defenders of a protective
tariff policy.
He said the democrats had al
ways sought to reduce the tan 11'
and taxer, but that the republicans
had not thus 'ar allowed them to
accomplish much in thia direction.
He is a pleasant speaker,

speech, to have the atage curtain
back of him lowered, saying that

He promulgated good, o!d

those principles, and scored tbe
republican party in about the

and denounced reciprocity. For a
democratic speech it was all that
could b desired, and waa heartily
applauded at intervals.

strument as described in brief is
as follows: In the upper part of
a st put re frame made of four up
rights a bucket of wa'er is set. the
contents of which, when ready
for operation, weighs :.'. 0 pounds.
'Ihey reach beneath the bucket,
and "connected with it bv a rubber

weight is 250 pounds, which when
the water is diawn from the buck

condemned man off his feet in the
air. From this large weight
rope runs through two pulleys
over a partition and then down
into llie execution room, where it
hang directly over a plat

the condemned stands. Every
thing cing in a readiness, Davis
was brought in and the noose and
black cap were placed in jKisition.
After he.hadbcen given an oppor

a roil lid him, he was told to step on
the small platform. His weight
on the platform opened the faucet
in the upper bucket and the wa'er
flowed into the bucket beneath.
This allowed the weight to drop
and Davis was jerked into the air.

No article entering so generally into the food of every
household is so generally and villainously adultered as bak
ing powder. These adulterated powders are shoved upon
the public with the greatest persistency.
Throbbing advertisements in newspapers claiming this
brand or that is absolutely pure, backed by analyses and cer
tificates, and yet they are adulterated with ammonia or alum.
It is to be hoped the law will take hold of these merciless
manufacturers and punish them for destroying the stomachs
of the unsuspecting consumer.
Amid all this fraud and deceit Dr. Price's Cream Bak
ing Powder stands almost alone battling for pure food and
continues to furnish a pure cream of tartar powder at almost
the same cost to the people as the arnmoina and alum pow
ders are sold at, yet it costs much more to manufacture.
Dr. Price's Cream Baking Powder is of the highest
strength. It produces the largest amount of leavening power
attainable in a pure baking powder. It is free from ammo
nia or any other adulteration. No powder does such work.
Housewives who have tested all use Dr. Prices only.
