Miss Jarbeau has, 1 ut she pos
senses soniething beyond that, ami
itis hertale.it as a c iiniiiedienne.
It is one tiling tosing well and look
pretty, but is quite another to fill
the requirements of a character
satisfactorily. '"Stat light"' is not
a very heavy play. Itis fashioned
on the lines 'of the lighter
phases of the modern drama
or rather vaudeville as it
should properly he called. It is a
orignt, catchy and pb-asing com
position, which without gieat
pretense, is yet so full of fun that
it will claim the attention of the
audience tiom the rising of the
curtain to thech-se. Miss Jat beau
is a charming figure is this piece.
Her singing is delightful, her pre
sence graceful, while her acting
nas that abandon that makes one
forget that he is w itnessinga stage
representa ion. Miss J-uheau is
of course, an old favor.te in this
city. Her iieri'oi inances in comic
opera are will remembered. Itis
a treat to see such a fresh and
unatlectetl woman on the s'ag'1
one who has gained expeiienee
enough to be giaceful and not ost
ium personality. Miss Jarbeau is
a chai iiiing woman, an accomplish
ed m-tress, ami a trained singer.
I he company snimortini' Miss
Jarbeau is an excellent one.
Llfjlit tin- Alley,..
It has been suggested that the
intetests of t he business lien oi
the city, would Ik; enhanced if
they would procure the putting in
of an incandescent light the rear
of each business block, so that the
alleys couid be made light enough
so that the night watch could see
whether any Imrglaroua business
was being carried on or not. The
expense would be verv small to
each one, and the benefits large.
