FOR STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL j
The Name cf Eon. Geo. E- Chamberlain, of
Albany, Mentioned in this Connection-
ort'iroiuaii Aiiril 7.
In discussing the work of thej
state legislature during the last i
session, Senator Jell'" Myers, of j
Linn county, veeterdav referred to
the law "Tenting the otlice of state
attorney general as one of the lew
measures that gave rise to but lit
tle discussion :
'This law," eaid he, "creates
theottice of state alUuin-y general.
No such o!liev has been in exist
ence in this stale heretofore. The
attorney general is to be elected
by the people, and will hold otlice
for the. same term that the other
stateotliciale do. The bill, I think,
was passed on the ll'lh ol l-ehru-urv,
and it was to become opera
tive ninety days after its passage.
As no stale elections w ill be held
iu the immediate future, it will
devolve upon the governor to make
an appointment.
Have any names been men
tioned in connection with this
otlice'.'" asked the reiHjrter.
"Yes, several names have been
mentioned, but the most promi
nent among them is that of Hon.
tieorge F.. Chamberlain, of Al
bany. Mr. Chamberlain repre
sented bis district iu the state
legislature six or eight years ago,
and he is considered a strong nun.
He is an attorney of great ability
ami wide experience, and his
reputation for honesty and integ
rity is without stain or blemish.
For a time he was engaged in the
practice of law in Albany wi'h
Judge I Flinn. He is a man in
every way lilted for the otlice, and
1 do not think a better appoint
ment could be made. Should lie
be honored with this otlice, I can
vouch that he will till it with
credit lo himself and to the entire
satisfaction of the people of .his
8tte. The emoluments of the
otlice are not lar.e, the annual
salary of the state's attorney gen
eral being fixed at .ftiOOO.' The
duly of this otlice is to advise all
the state olliceis in any matter
tlu-state may be interesled in."

Look a moment friends, a well
