the very few fortunate people who
were on the dilated train yet
escaped uniiijuied. 11a was t!ie
tirst to light a lamp in one of the
Pullman coaches and relates a
laughable story connested with
the wiet-k, the principal partici
pant of which was a very excited
man.
Soon after the lights wen lit, a
young lady was seen lying on the
floor, senseless and apparently
dead. Aid rushed to her and a
one brought her water anothei
suggested to loosen her dress. A
modern style dress was torn away
but a neatly Hting cors"t was not
so easily handled. The excited
man found a remedy, however, fi
nishing to the end of the car he
caught from the rack a small ax
and returning was nbmt to cut the
strings before being checked. Had
he been let alone undoubtedly the
number of deaths would have been
one greater.

whose parents had gone to visit a
neighbor. The boys were not to
touch the guns, they 'vere loaded,
hut during the evening they con

young Dickinson. The wounded
boy would not allow his companion
to leave him to go for assistance,
and they stayed all night alone.
He died Sunday evening. It was
a sad accident, and the bereaved

There are two rival hog fattening
establishments below town, both
conducted by Chinamen. Yester
day Ah Swill in looking over his
band of hogs missed one, and al
though he made a careful search
was unable to find it. Later in the'
day he called on Hung Ove, and
was surprised to see his "porker
neatly dressed and hanging up
ready for market.
Hung failed to cut off the ears
however, which bore Swill's pri
vate mark and by which he recog
nized his property. He immed
iately came to town and swore out
a warrant for Huug Oye's arrest,
and Constable Burkhart soon had
him arraigned in Justice Hum
phrey's court. As the evidence
was most conclusive he was bound
over in the sum of $100 to await
