ease of John Evans for the killing
of David R. Davin, in thisci.y, on
July 14th last, has resulteu in a
verdict, of acquittal. Evans is a
mining man of good repute and
an invalid. Davis was a big burly
fellow. The stabbing affray giew
out of a loan of $5 which Davis
demanded of Evans, and on being

Evans drew a knile and slabbed

Cruaurox, la., Oct. 20. Satur
day afternoon Elmer Oliver, aged
21, arrived here from Kansas,
hired a livery team and drove to
the little town of Freedom. He
went to the house of Mr. Tittle,
ard requested to see the daughter,
with whom he was in love. He
requested the girl to marry him,
but she refused, saying she wat
ico youna. O'iver pulled a revol
ver and shot fie girl through the
temple, causing instant death. He
then turned th weapon upon him

the girl. He lived in an uncon
scious coi'di'ion until this morn

$20,000 with his creditors. Bolton
left the eity quietly two weeks ago
and is known to have been in San
Francisco a week ago. He came
to this citv from Australia and it
is believed that he has departed
for that country. He leaves a
wife and several children here.

Mary Dezirello, aged 22vearB, w as
shot and instantly killed this
morning by Ramon Toper., a
Spaniard, aged 38 years. Topcz
had been bothering the girl with
his attentions some time past, and
had made threats ol violence
against her, declaring if ehe did
not marry him she enould not
njarry any one. This morning he
called at her father's residence
and called her out to the gate.

her. She refused to have any
thing to do with him, when he
pulled a revolver and shot her
through the body. SI e died

Toptz fired three shots at the
officer, who went o his house to
arrest him. He was finally ar
rested, and narrowly ctcaind
lynching.
