Drowning; On the McKenzie
Tim Kellogg, age. suDposed to
be between 20 and 30 years, was
drowned at Oak Tree camp about
miles east of Coburg on the Mc
Kenzie river, Wednesday Septem
ber 3d about 11 o'cloek a. m. He
was employed driving logs down
the river. The water at this place
is shallow, but of very uneven
depth snd at the place where he
went under the water was about
4 feet deep, and has a very swift
undercurrent. The logs would
float out to the hanks of the rivei
and lodge, and had to be" 'dodged"
hack into the river with horses
His position was to unfasten the
hores from the logs, and he wa.
standing in the water about waist
deep, leaning on a peavy alter hav
ing unfastened his team from a
large log when a smaller log in
in passing him knocked bis peavy
out of his hands He then started
tow aad the shore and had uo'
nearly out of the water w hen he
suddenly turned around, went
hack and sat on the log. It issup
posed the log rolled with him as
he was next seen struggling in tin
water. A boat was immediately
to his rescue, but before the boat
could reach him he sank as:aiii ami
was seen no more. Work was im
mediately suspended and a dili
gent search legiiii, hut up to t
o clock Friday morning the bod
had not been recoved.

out of one of the cars, leaving

draw heads of the whole seven, so
they had to be left on the switch
for repairs. No one was hurt.
