New York, August 27. A Ham
burg cablegram says: - , "There is
intense excitement here over the
derve row which has occurred be
tween Buffalo Bill and Dr. Carver.
People are an aid to come out of
doors after dark, a d the place is
in- a state of siege. Membeis of
e icti tioupe have openly declared
t ieir intention of lighting for their
resjjective masters, even if the
quarrel ends in a. general tight,
there can be no doubt it is -only
through the efforts oi the civic au
thorities that oloodshed has up to
the present time ben avoided."
Carver has been following Cody
all through the latter's tour of the
cities of the continent, his per-
lormances have been so much bet
ter patronized, that Buffalo . Bill's
jealousy was aroused. Cody an
nounced his intention ot staying
some time in Hamburg and Carver
tiien sto!- A march on his rival.
He arrived in Hamburg three days
ahead and opened his Wild West
show in fine style. When Cody
got here he found he was obliged
to pitch his tent within a few L.-t
of Carver's bIkjw. Carver, had
made ai rangements for an exclu
sive supply of electric lights and
this left Cody's place in the dark.
Then the members of both . com
panies took up the matter and it
was only through the strenuous ef
forts of the police that a tearful
light was prevented.
