The Ooropni Again at the Month of
the River.
Aftt'.ria I'ioiit'er
The octopus at the mouth of the
Columbia river, it appi ars, is like
'a Bampio's ghost and will not
down. For a month past the
monster has been repeatedly seen
by lishermen and several attempts
made to kill it with harpoons and
rifles, but without success.
Adolph Gudtarson planted tv.o
bullets in its body about ten days
ago and as it disappeared and was
not seen again it was thought he
had killed it. This proved not
the case for yesterday evening it
was s- n ;'gain by fishermen, just
lielow - d island.
It is getting wary of the boats
and now on approach of one sinks
out of sight, the fishermen tindi' g
it impossible io get a shot at it.
Several nets have been ruined by
the monster and the s dmon
hunters are determined to have its
scalp and some of its tentacles.
