Litti.k Rock. April 25. The
Clayton-P.reckinridge investigation
committee examined about 75
witnes-es to-day, nearly all of
whom were negroes. They testi
fied that they cast the straight re
publican ticket, containing the
name of J. M. Clayton as a candi
date for congress. ' The majority
of them who testified were unable
to read and could not tell a hetlier
(the tickets shown were the ones
they vo ed or not. In neatly all
cases where a negro who was un
able t" read had cast a vole the
ballot produced was a straight
democratic one.
