tion adjourned sine die. After
some routine business and the
adoption of resolutions pledging
the svnipathetic assistance of the
members of the convention with
the quadro-centennial celebration
of the discovery of America and
expressing; their gratitude for the
hospitality of the T'nited States,
a motion to adjourn sine diewa
made. Blaine announced the re
sult and said: "1 withhold for a
moment final adjournment in order
to express to you the .profound
satisfaction of the government re
garding the workjiccomplished by
you."
The delegates to the convuniion
left Washington nt 1 1 o'clock to
night lor their trip through the
Southern states, which will occupy
threo weeks. The tour is tendered
by the Tinted States government

the past 24 hours it has rained
over two inches, causing a rise in
Calaveras river. This morning
John Cavaginaro, an old pioneer,
tried to -ross Calaveras river.
When about midway the swift
current struck his wagon and
finally capsized it. Mr.Cavagmaro,
havitig on a latge overcoat sank,
and was drowned. His body was
not recovered. The team ?vas also
drowned.

cently held its ecssions at Colusa,
Cal., The proposition to revise
the creed in relation to the dam
nation of non-elect infants was
defeated by one vote, but after
ward the following resolution was
presented and acopted by vote
of 10 to.'i;
"The Presbytery of Sacramento,
having recorded" its decision
against a general revision of the
Confession of Faith, would over
ture the general assembly in favor
of a single change, viz.," that in
the third section of chapter 10 the
word 'elect' be dropped"

notice to an appeal to the synod

during the sugar season and be

large tract of maple timber land

year,' and not dropping it as soon
as it was time to begin work on
the farms, as these 'blawsted
Yankees' do. Somebody gave the
F'nglishman a primer lesson on the
manner aud time of year in w hich
sap is diffused in trees, and tho
all-year-round sugar scheme ex
ploded. They are doing very well
with the saccharine industry.
however, considering the shortness
of the season. Thev make about
7,000 pounds every year and sell
about 7,000.000 of 'pure Vermont
maple sugar.'"
