engaged in investigating the coal,
iron, and general mineral resources
of Oregon, and especially the rich
deposits discovered in that portion
of the Cascade mountains through

runs, was interviewed yesterday

Mr. Norton lias been engaged in
this undertaking for several
months, and exjH-cts. t devote si
greater part of the summer in com
pleting his investigations. He
says that there is no doubt of the
fact that great beds- of both coal
and iron exists in the locality
named, w hich cannot fail to elicit t

Mr. Norton stated that the Iron
mid Steal Institute of England wuh
coming over to this country in
October, and will be the guests of
the American Institute of Mining
Engineers at their annual meeting
