late disaster is about completed.
Thiry-nine bodies were recovered
and identified, while ten more per
sons are known to be lost. While
the property in and about Wicken-
btirg is badly damaged no loss ot
life has occurred, as was feared,
the people being on the watch for
the flood. ' It is impossible here to

dent, further than that the dam
w as not properly constructed. The

Ogden, Utah, Feb. 27. A a the
west bound fast mail reached a
point six miles east of Blue creek,
thirty-five miles west of here, the
engineer discovered that the mail
car which was filled with through
mail was on lire. An effort 'was
made to put it out, but there being
no water near, the engineer threw
open the throttle and resolved to
reach the water tank if possible
in time to save the valuable cargo,
In six minutes he landed the
burning train under the Fjiout of
the tank Fix miles distant, but too
late. The interior was a seething
mass of flames and loS sacks oi
through mail were almost totally
consumed. Word soon spread
through the cars- that the train
was on hre. The greatest excite
ment prevailed, and only the
lightning seed of the train pre
