Vhe tiohsibiiities that ttill lie in
the researches of elee.rlcal inven-1 F1'
tion and investigation are great.
For instance the F.iectrical Kayiew
oiiensupa new litdd of thought
and discussion by a-king why ihe
mere magnetization of a bar of
steel makes of it a machine fur the
transformation of energy. It is
said that a magnetized horseshoe
will lift a pound of iron and hold it
for an indeGnite period of time. In
every second of that time it is not
only expending energy but also
increaing its actual power ; and the
question is, where that shaping
potency comes from whether from
gravity, atmosphere, solar rays, or
earth currents. We t-eem yet to
have hardly reached the confines
of investigation into the forces of
nature.

One of the industries of our stale,
which has been inaugurated dur
ing the past season by Portland
business men, is that of deep sea
fishing, ft has proved such a suc

mental stage to a practical business
basis. The company, consisting of
a few of Portland's best known
business men, completed a steam
schooner on the 23th of July last,
which, since that time, has made
four successful trips to the fishing
banks of the coast, proving that
halibut and cod, as well as other
