of steamer Santiargo; all saved;
ship destroyed by fire." The ship
referred to is probably the lintisn
steamer Santiago, which sailed
from this port on Nov. 17th for
Hull. i

o'clock last night fifteen masked
and armed men boarded the south
bound Topeka and Santa Fe pas
senger train at Berwin station, In
dian territory, and cut the engine,
mail and express car loose from
the coaches. They then ran the
train south two nvles and threw
the fireman off the locomotive ; two
miles further the engineer was
thrown off, and after running four
miles further steam was turned off
and the locomotive "killed." The
robbers then began an attack on
the express car. The guard and
messenger fired some twenty shots
but finally gave in after the rob
bers had literally riddled the cars
with bullets. The amount of mon
ey stolen is between $20,000 and
$30,000 and tame principally from
Chicago.

moved for the dismissal of the in
dictments against L. G. English,
a young man from Bacramento,
who is charged with obtaining
money under false pretenses, by
means of- drafts upon, fictitious
firms. Mr. McGinn's - course in
this case was not prompted by a
mother's tears and pleadings, but
he was guided in the matter by a
sense of justice and humane senti
ment, based upon affidavits and
certificates from men in high posi
tions in California testifying ,to
English's irresponsibility.

Ford reports all quiet there. Hip

ment makes it very hard to cet any
work done. Minister Douglass, it is
said, will not remain long c:i the
island, but will return to the Unittu
