TWO BROTHERS DISAGREE.
A FigLt Eas-ut, Some Shootisg Done, and
(Le ia Now ia Jail.
Several days aeo the Herald
published an item to the effect that
two brothers. Gillerman by name,
living near Lyonsville, became en
gaged in a desperate light about
the occupancy of a house. This
has now resulted in the incarcera
tion of one of the participants on a
charge of burglary. It seems that
the younger brother owned the
land cpon which is
located two I
houses, the two brothers, both
bachelors, occupying them sepa
rately. The owiier deshed that
his brother vacate whereupon a
dispute arose. During the absence
oi me enaui, yiarun nniuiina",
the owner went down with an ax
and proceeded to demolish the
house when soon the older brother
appeared upon the scene. During
the controversy the owner tireii
seve ral shots to frighten his brother
away, ami finally ran him away
with an ax. Whereupon an an est
was made noon a charge of bur
glary, the occupant of the house
claiming that his brother Martin
stole $'20. He was delivered oyer
to Sheriff Smallinon and is now
incaicerated in the county jail.
I le has considerable property and
is abundantly able to furnish the
required $L'50 bonds, but declines
to do so, saying that he will remain
in jail until the grand jury investi
gates t he case.

YAQUINA BAY BOTES.
Work ob tba Jetti3 8upsndd for
Wintei Improvtment HuteF.
Newi'out, Nov. 19. Wrk on the
jetties at Yaquina biy ceased last
Friday, and most of the force was
paid off and discharged. A small
number of men are now engaged
in putting things in shape for trife
layoff that will probably last until
the . " 'die of next summer, and
longer iv he coming congress fails
to make an appropriation. During
the past fourteen months a large
amount of work has been accom
plished on this improvement, the
south jetty being practically
finished.
The friends of this bay feel con
fident that the congress that con-
venes in December will make an
ample appropriation to continue
this work and t arry it to com pie-
i tion.
estenlav mornmu the steamer
Kichardson met with an accident
that came near sending her on to
the south beach. Just as she was
i leaving the dock tor Yaquina ner
rudder broke, and she was at the
mercy of the tide. For'rnMy
the tide was setting in, and a.Ur
grazing the south sand spit she
drilled across the channel and was
warped fo the dock. If the tide i
had been ebbing, she would proba-l
my have gone out over the bar.
A motor road from West Yaquina
j to Alsea bay, fourteen miles south,
j is talked of, and the chances are
i that a portion of it will be con
structed next slimmer.
The Oregon Pacific Company has
just completed a 'arge reservoir on
the bluffs back ot the docks, and
laid four-inch iron mains to their
warehouses, shops, etc. They can
throw two or three streams of
water equal to a steam fire engine.
It gives them a splendid water
service.
Monday Judge Bean, of the Ben
ton county circuit court, rendered
a decision in the sirt of Case &
Bayley vs. the city of Newport,
which is of great importance to the
people of this citv. It in effect
establishes the street line on the
water front on the old, original sur-1
vey. This line has been in dispute
for several years. The city lost
the suit, ar.d it is out several bun-
dred dollars. Therefore, in the
eyes of the taxpayers, the contest
should never have been begun.
But it is a good thing to have such
a question definitely settlod.

A POPULAR ESTABLISHMENT.
How Julius Oradwohl's GoldenRu!e Basaar
Meets the Public Want.
One of the most extensive and
elegantly stocked establishments
in the Willamette valley is to be
found in the Golden Rule Bazaar
store of Julius Gradwohl in this
city. In order to accommodate his
many customers he is in the Held
early this year, and has already
commenced receiving his immense
line of beautiful gocds for the fall
and winter and for the holidays,
and has one of the most gorgeous
and dazzling displays to be seen in
any ooltlen Kule Bazaar in Oregon
The line carried comprises a be
j wildering assortment of line china,
! uueensware and classw-nre of the
latest styles and most delicate de
signs. The beautiful jhina and
glassware, together w ith the dec
orated and fancy wares, novelties,
elegant stand and hanging lamps,
toys, boys' wagons and general
bazaar goods, present a scene well
worth on s time to visit.
Here ma be found a complete
line of table cutlery of the cele
orated makes, Koger Bros.' silver
and silver plated goods and
Bohemian wares of every variety,
while his stock of dolls, toys, toilet
and fancy goods, in plush and
silver, and novelties for the chil
dren will be larger t'-an ever be
fore. Mr. (iradwohl has enlarged
i his slock in such a replete manner
that his Golden Kule Bazaar is not
i only a credit to the city of Albany
but to the entire lllamette
valley, being one of the most ex
tensive establishments of the kind
in Oregon. The most important
feature to purchasers is in prices,
and when we assert that his prices
are as low as any house in the state
and that his goods are sold at
figures '.hat cannot be equaled in
the Northwest, it is but the recital
of an absolute fact. It will be to
the interests of the country mer
chants to purchase their holiday
goods from this establishment, and
orders should be sent in at once.
Mr. (iradwohl has long since
proven his adaptability to this
business, and it is taking no risK
to say that this emporium of elegant
fancv and decoiatiye ware is the
ir.c complete in the Willamette
i llev. .those who deal at the
Golden Kule Bazaar, will find a
