$50 per month for six months, to be
used in repairing what is known as
the Lake creek toad between Euirene
and the head of tide on the Siuslaw

members was organ'zed in this city

At last there seems almost certain
promise of the building of a street
railway iu this city. The members
of the two old companies have agreed
to consolidateintere8t8 and all pull
together. The council was asked
last night for a resonably liberal fran
chise, which we have no doubt will be
granted, and if eo work will be com
menced very soon.
A fine vein of stone coal lias been
opened recently upon the farm of
Mrs. Lynch, two or three miles south
west of the city. The stratum crops
on a hillside within eight feet of the
surface, is of good quality aud from
five to six feet thick. If fuel was not
so plenty and cheap the find would be
regarded as of great importance, aud
as it is there are certain to be valua
ble developments as it is well kaown
to old timers that good coal er.ists all
around us.
Lane county has 205 individual,
firm or company tax-pavers, who pay
on over $5000, seventy-three of them
over $1C,000, seventean over $20,000,
