the appearance of this well known
and popular company at the opera
house on Monday evening next.
This new play has been greeted
with overwhelming success in San
Francisco, and there is certain to
be a rush for 6eats in this city Mou

very friendly assemblage that
gathered to welcome Mr. Grismer
and Mips Da vies in their latest
venture, and was as critical as it
was kindly, but there was very
little room for comment, otherwise
than complimentary, on the play
and performance. We have had
during the past two months the
best of the New York companies,
and have been tcuched up a little
in what acting should lo, In view
of this fact w e are able to thorough
ly appreciate the clever work of
the people in the cast of The Burg
lar. It was a very clever perform
ance in every respect, and it is no
wonder that the play has been so
successful elsewhere. The author
has accomplished quite a feat in
producing sui-h a play from the
charming little story that forms its
basis.
Mr. Grismer as "Bill, the Bur
glar," lost himself in the part, and
looked and acted the diameter to
the life; he developed a vein of
genuine pathos that brought the
tears to the eyes of many of the
audience. 1 1 is acting throughout
the entire play shows careful study
and a clear conception of the part.
Miss Davies has rather a subdued
daraVtcr vay, and she shows
tnat she unoerstanus what is ex
pected of her, and acts with much
grace and naturalness. She had a
rousing welcome when she ap
peared, and the number of beauti
ful flowers that were given her
showed w hat a place she has in
the regards of her friends and the
public generally. Mr. Grismer is
to be congratulated on his business
sagacity in having secured this
play, and his ability in gathering
about him the very clever people
he has to interpret it.

Yaquina Republican.
The steamer Willamette Valley
left for 'Frisco Sunday at 12 :30 t.
m. with about 800 tons of wheat
and 15 passengers.
The schooner Rowena that went
ashore on South beach a couple of
months ago, was taken over the
sand ridge ridge and launched in
the bay. She has been overhauled
and rigged as a sloop.
The O. P. machine shop if being
enlarged by an addition of 26 feet
on the north end, which is a much
needed improvement. Mr. Rankin
is superintending the work and
expects to have it completed in a
few days.
On Sunday night the surf com
menced wastiing the sand from
under the hull o: the wrecked
steamer Yaquina Bay on the port
side and the great iron hull com
menced to keel over until Tuesday
the hu'l lay square on its beam
ends The sea now has a fair
drive at the decks and interior. It
the hull does not turn clear over,
keel to the stars, the sea in less
than a month will rip the decks out
and the shell will collapse and dis
appear from sight, to the regret of
coasting captains who hive used
the wreck lor a landmark.
