The te.-t of the pneumatic, or
compressed air guns, which was
lately had on board of the cruiser
Visuvius on the Delaware river,
was successful and demonstrated
that projectiles can be made as
effective in that manner as by ex
plosives. The Knights Templar who hive
been holding their conclave in the
city of Washington during this
week, have had a successful and
pleasant time of it, bringing in
spectaeulai reviews that were
t-imply immense. President Har
rison gave a reception at the White
House, and a memorial service
was held at Mt. Vernon for Wash
ington. Hex. lioL'i. anger has at last
found a due appreciation. The
citizens of Montreal, Canada, of
Trench descent, have resolved to
invite him to resice with them
until such time as France shall call
upon him to return and rule the
destinies of his country. If he ac
cepts his entertainers will doubt
less be several centuries older
before they tease their hospitalities,
Old newspaper readers will
remember a meteoric newspaper
man, who used to be quite promin
ent in the business in this country.
Brick Pomeroy. He has switched
all over the west and east, and is
now in the business in New York,
and wields his pencil as vigorously
as ever as the following prodding
he gives the World will show :
Among the ghouls and maggot
mouthers of journalism is the New
York World. Not long since a
dude minister in Baltimore, who
was too high up in the back to
speak to or associate with his shoe
maker father, committed suicide.
His name was Kev. Greenfield
Schorr. He was not a spirtuali.st,
Christian scientists or professor i f
aJvanced thoughts. He was a
darling ministerial dude, who was
courting tisico women at one time
importuning each to marry him.
Eva he suicided he -ent letters
from and pictures of one of the
ladies lie hail become acquainted
with, Mrs. M. Smith, of Baltimore,
to the World, this city, statirg
that he was going, and while he
was kicking the bucket would the
World be enterprising enough to
kick the lady in question. The
letters were published, with a
picture of the lady, and thus an in
nocent, honest woman was thrown
into the gutter for the public to
look at and trample upon. It was
sensational journalism, ghoulish,
nasty, contemptible. Gentleman
cenerallv decline to thus do dirtv
work for dude destroyers of their
own lives, who are also cowardly
enough to drag down, defile and
I trv to dishonor those who in life
were far above them. The Worid
made a grave mistake."

An event that means much to
this coast is announced as com
pleted. It is the settlement of the
dilliculties between Nicaragua and
Costa Kica, and the commence
ment of active work on the Nicar-
gua canal. The arrangement was
brought about by the active efforts
of Minister Mizner who is an old
Californian. and appreciates the
benefits to accrue to this coast
from the completion of the canal.
It is to be hoped that the work
w ill not cease until the project is
actually realized.
