The total receipts of the state fir
for this vear will foot up more
than $18,000, and when he $5001)
state-appropriation for payment of
premiums is added, the state hoard

The receipts at ths main gates

receipts are made up from the race

The total receipts for last year
were $16,615. The gain in receipts
for this year was made almost en

I'acilic Industrial Association's big
exposition was opened at 7 :30 this
evening and was attended by a
great throng of people from this
city and various portions of Ore
gon. The opinion is freouentlv

pressed that the ex position building
is the finest in the country. Of
course there are larger ones, but
none so nicely arranged or so i
handsome architecturally, while
the music hall, or central division
is without an equal. The displays
of all kinds are very complete and
attractive.
Signor Liberati and his cele
brated band, which promises to
form a most attractive feature of
the fair, arrived this morning,
bringing with them Madame
Sophie Koiaani, prima donna i
and international songstress. The
fair was opened by an overture by
this band, which consisted of a
composition of national airs dedi
cated to Governor Pennoyer.
The committee who have in
charge the m.v.ter of entertaining
the newspaper men on Saturday,
newspaper day, have about com
pleted their air.ingements and
have prepared a somewhat eh borate-
programme.
