moye. Being but one narrow street
between rhe rock and the river
there is a complete stoppage of
trailic, except by climbing over the
debris.
A large force is engaged in search
ing the ruins, and the shipping

building is being turned into a tern
porary morgue. Over twenty bodies
are lying in it. It is ditlicult to
identify some, so .nuch have they
been disfigured and crushed.
Several persons reported missing
have turned up, but it is thougl
that mere will lie ten or more
victims added to the list. A com
plete list of the injured cannot be
made yet, as they were removed to
the dillereni hospitals and tc
friends' houses.
The citv council is holding
special meeting to consider what is

months ago with the object of going
farther north than Lord Lonsdale,
have been heard from, the letters
having been written over two
months auo, dafed from Chippe
wayan. They had a rough experi
ence on Lake Hobiska, and during

sive mud oepesit. When the
water receded the boat.-? were left

The total cash receipts of the
office freni the sales of land and
fees were $9,270,225, a decrease of
mare than $3,000,000, as compared
with the previous year.
During the year surveys were ac
cepted ta the amount at 4,5-14,372
acres, principally in Dakota, Mon
tana and Mew Mexico.

been mada during the vear than
for many years past, owing ta in
creased vigilance, but several cases
are mentioned in the report where
syndicates have sought to obtain'
ceal jands by fraudulent means,
and in one case,had they succeeded,
tha commission alone would have
amounted to $550,060.
