gress annexation to Nevada.
The Winnewucca Silver State is
of the same opinion. It points out
that the annexation of Nevada to
California would deprive the Pacific
coast of two senators, and adds :
By annexing Utah, which lias
no hoe of licing admitted as a
State, vnile? the Mormons control
it, the coast representation in the
senate would not be reduced,
while it wo'ild be. increased by at
least one vote in tho house of repre
sentatives. It is nonsensical for
the 50,000 inhabitants of Nevada
to attempt longer to maintain an
expensive state government, and
the farce inu?t close within a few
years unless the power of the legis
lature to borrow money for state
purposes from the tcluol fund is
extended by constitutional amend
ment. But the Mormons ot Utah are
unwilling ta gain the advantages
of statehood by the proposed an
nexation, and will clin to their
nefarious ways until the strong
