teen-ycar-old boti of Superintendent
of Police Murray of Xtw York, met
with a Kudih-u death yesterday. He
was playing ball and ran to catch a

was seized with a sharp pain near the
heart, and fell. He was taken home
and it was found that he had ruptured
a blood vesstl near the heart by over
exertion. He died two. hours later.

now being constructed from Grey
town to Fort San Orlop, on the
shores of Lake Nicaragua, from which
point there is a (Javernmcnt line con
necting with San Juan del Sur, and
thencs to Galveston, Tex., viaMeflo.
The steamer also took one nine of
eight-inch water-pipe to be UEed in
the proposed aqueduct between Dese
ado basin and Grcytown, the object
being to supply the Atlantic terminals
of the American canal with an abnnd
a.ue of pure water.
A mile of railroad material to con
nect the landing-place at Greytown
with the company's storehouses along
the beach is also on board the Aeuan,
and twa additional miles of water
pipe and of railroad material will be
sent by each steamer following.
Seventy tons of provisions, a quantity
of house fu niture, bedding, etc, and
several railroad construction cars also
form part of the Agnail's load.

A correspondent of the Uelliugham
bay Keyeille narrates the following
story, told him by one of the old
timers, whose father in 1S0.'1, named
Jones, joined the party of John Jacob
Aitor and came to the mouth of the
Columbia river, to assist iu establish
ing a fur trading post. After trap
ping on the Columbia, Lewis, Clarke,
and Snake' and other rivers with in
different success tor some time, .Mr.
Jones through the Luiutui Indians,
who journeyed thence une a j ei.r to
trade their furs for ttotiuns, cto.,
heard of the great inland sea. In
1S0G Mr. Jones and his small party
struck across the country from the
Columbia, and after encountering
many hardships, lauded on the shores
of the great inland sea, at a point
where tae city of Olympia now stands.
Here they procured canoes and an
Inoian guide and started for Nook
sack, along which the Indians said
there were multitudes of beaver.
They were quite succesful on the
Nooksack, Finally, after a trip up
Chucanut creek, which they fonnil
alive with the valuable little animals,
the ccnchidcd to locate their post.
This was done where a small branch
stream empties its v. .iters iuto the
Chucanut. A stone cabin was built
at the base of a hieh, bold mountain,
which served as a landmark. They
I'on.a.ned here two seasons, and at
tho end f that time, having a large
supply cf furs on hand, it was neces
sary tor them to ' to Atitjria. They
departed with the intention of return
ing the next season, but at that time
war' broke out betwc eu the Unite 1
States and England, and Mr. Astor
failed to -supply the provisions.
Great dissatisfaction was expressed,
and the posts, furs ami everything
possessed by tbem were sold to the
Northwestern Kur company; and the
party joined a homeward bound train.
