The Oregon tan says: Mr.' John
Steffen, the well-known North
Portland shipbuilder, was awarded
a contract by the O. R. & N. Co.
for the reconstruction of the steam
er Mountain Queen, and work will
be commenced at once.
The new steamer will be a side
wheeler similar to the T. J. Potter.
Tke steamer's proposed dimensions
are: Length 200 feet, beam 31
feet 6 inches, and depth of hold 11
feet. The Mountain Queen's boiler,
machinery and cabin will be used
on the new vessel, but the other
portions will be entirely new and
exceedingly strong. She will be
without doubt the strongest steam
boat e rer built in this district for
inland navigation and will be per
fectly seaworthy. Her timbers
will all be fastened with galvan
ized iron and her hull will be cop
pered, so that in case she is needed
on the Sound she will be prepared
for salt water.
The new steamer will, when re
constructed, have cost the O. R. & !
