TEE OREGOH CENSUS.
The State Will Be Divided Into Two Dis
tricts With 2C0 Enumerators.
Superintendent Porter, of the
census bureau, and Representative
Hermann have been in consulta
tion for some time, as to the advis
ability of dividing Oregon into one
or two districts, and it has finally
been concluded to make two dis
tricts, dividing the state on the
summit of the Cascade range of
mountains, which forms Eastern
Oregon as one district, with a
supervisor of census for it, and
Western Oregon as another.
There will be, it is estimated,
about 200 enumerators for Oregon,
who will each have separate
divisions, composed of precincts,
whose employment will be limited
to one month, and who will be
allowed $0 per day.
In the eastern counties, the com
pensation will be based on the
number of names and industries
enumerated. These enumerators
will be under the direction of
supervisors.

Raittern Oregon Waterspout.
A cloud-burst or waterspout oc
curred on Wednesday at or near
the month of Antelope creek, a
small stream that empties into
Crooked river about l.'J miles above
Prineville. The pour-down ex
tended over the hills to the valley
of the Ochoco near the mouth of
Mill creek, and soon filled the
channel of that stream the Ochoco
to overflowing, causing some
fright among the settlers of that
locality, and threatening damage
to growing crops. The only dam-
! age reported, however, was done on
the farm of Mr. J. J. Luwson. The
flood washed the soil from a piece
of ground that he had summer
fallowed and ran over and washed
down a portion of his hav crop.
About 11 o'clock that night the
Ochoco here in town was boominsr.
the water having risen at least six
eet. We learn that portions of
the roadway up Crooked river are
so washed out as to impede travel
in that direction with wagons. It
is fortunate that no more damage
than that reported was done.

A Will Content.
An interesting suit in equity is
now in progress before Countvl
Judge Blackburn in probate. It is
the will contest of the late Martin
Werts, of Tangent, wherein Mrs.
Sarah Luper is the plaintiff. Ac
cording to the terms of the will the
estate valued at $12,000 was left in
nearly four equal parts to an only
daughter, and to three other more
distant relatives who had been
raised by the deceased. Thedaugh
ter has brought suit to set aside
the will. The case has been in
progress for some time.
