A seventy-five-yard foot race was
run at the . Seattle race track Sun
day between Harry F.ethune, the
lamous sprinter, and Frank Lewis,
formerly a well-known Oregon run
ner. About .",oo people went out
to witness it. Lewis cot a decided
advantage in the start" and kept it

he could not win the race and ho
quit before the goal was reached.
Lewis' time was given at 7li sec

fast. There were no charges that
the r;uv was a put up job, but all
seemed square. Dethune, it is
said, has been sick for several

A HArn BEUNION.
Halsey, June 4.
Three aged sisters met on the
29th of May, Mrs. Brosises from
Iowa, Mrs. Stafford from Tacoma,
W. T., met Mrs. E. M. Templeton
at J. R. Templeton's, two miles
east of Halsey.
Mrs. Brosises met Mrs. Stafford
at Tacoma the week before, whom
she had not seen for fifty years.
This must have been a grand
sight to have seen those aged
sisters meet, all widows.
Mrs. Brosiser has but one child
living, but the others have large
families, all in Oregon and Wash
ington territory. Their ages are as
follows : Mrs. Templeton 77years,
Mrs. Stafford 70, and Mrs. Brosises
07. Those three are the last of a
family of ten children. Their
brothers and Bisters have all
crossed the river into the silent
land. It is remarkable how their
mental faculties remain so bright
and clear. In talking about their
childhood days, they remember
their Grandfather Ramsey, and
his history when he crossed the
ocean from Ireland, when he was
17 years old on the ship, the Faith
ful Stewart, which was wrecked on
the Eastern coast he swam ashore j
with nothing out the clothes on nis
tack. He settled in Pennsylvania,
became wealthy, owned several
slaves, lived in a large stone house,
was very strict and allowed no
cooking on Sabbath, but tea for
breakfast. He died very sudenly,
having gone to bed late one night
and was found dead in his bed
next morning. T.
