It is very warm here, 95 degrees
in the shade.. Haying is prettv
well alone, some are through
Heading grain has begun in some
parts. The recent storm in May
beat down tnousands of acres of
the heavy summer fallow. grain,, so
that it will be difficult to cut, if at
all. In some of the southern conn
ties everything is dried to a crisp,
Woodland is situated 7 miles west
of the Sacramento river, : 18 miles
northwest from Sacramento City.
It has a population of 5000. . Yolo
county is the same to this state as
that of okl Linn is to Webfoot, the
banner county. Its products con
sist of general varieties of fruit
orchards,, extensively large vine
yards, both of wine and raisin
grapes. It also produces, more
grain than other county. One per
sen I am acquainted with is L.
Walker, of Woodland, who edited
the Albany Herald forsometime.
He was postmaster when I first
came here in December, 1880. I
have traveled a great deal since
and have been nearly the world
ever.
