A Crazed Woman Leapt from the Overland
Train, bnt is not Injured.
When the Southern Pacific over
land train arrived in the city yes
terday a remarkable story of "the
hardships of a woman was told. A
family, who were traveling second
class, and whose names could not
b ascertained, were in a situation
deserving of sympathy. They
came from Kansas, and shortly
after leaving, the husband fell from
the train and was seriously injured.
His wife through worrying over
his condition and the care of a
young babe became partially de
ranged, and shortly after leaving
Tan cent she leaped from the train,
which was going at a rate of 35
miles per hour. Strange to say
she was apparently uninjured, and
ran toward a farm house near by.
The train was stopped and backed
up and the unfortunate woman
was again taken aboard, and taken
with her injured husband to Port
land. They were en route to Seattle,
and .were almost without money.
They were kindly cared for on (he
train, an 1 elicited the deejet sym
pathy from those on board.

A STALE CflESTXVT.
The Linn County Judge Conte.rt Caie Ar
gued in the 8aprezne Court at 8alem.
The Linn county judge contest
case, commenced last year by J. J.
Whitney, and which has now be
come a very stale chestnut, was
argued in the supreme court at
Salem yesterday. Ex-Judge Whit
ney appeared in his own behalf
and Judge D. R. N. Blackburn
argued the case on the defense.
The case was submitted, and was
taken under advisement by the
court. The decision will probablv
be delivered by Judge Strahan,and
there is little doubt as to the way
it will be decided. No legal
grounds for a contest has been set
forth for the reason that none exist
and the case will to doubt go just
as it did in the circuit court here.
