wore two li-'ely prize-lights last
night, or rather the morning after
the adjournment of the legislatuie.
The audience was principally made
up of representatives from the
senate and assembly.

tween Billy Mahan and Jack Sulli
van for the middle weitrht cham
pionship of the Pacific Coast, and
a purse of $500. Two-ounce gloves
were worn, and the pugilists had
sixty-tlree terrific rounds to a
diaw. Joe McAuliffe acted as
referee.
The second battle was between
Charles Turner and Billy Hall,
both colored. The former was
backed by Tom Williams, of Stock
ton, and lhe latter ly Senator
Goucher. Nineteen rounds were
fought, resulting in victory for
Turner. The fight lasted to nearly
8 o'clock this morning.

street wharf last evening. The
ship Oneida was preparing to be
towed into the stream, and some
half-dozen Chinese, w ho were n
the vessel, made an attempt to get
ashore. One got on the dock, and
he was captured and forcible pat
on board. The others were pre
vented by the sailors from getting
ashore until the tug had pulled the
ship from alongside the wharf.
The Oneida is to go to Alaska for
the Kodink Fishing Company, and
takes with her machinery, etc., for
the cannery. The cans will be
made on board ship. The vessel
takes up eighty-five Chinamen to
engage the fisheries. The sight
in the hold was a sickening one.
Nearly all the Mongolians were
under the influence of opium, be
lieving the drug will prevent them
from being seasick. The vessel
will anchor in the stream until she
can cct a crew.
