The boiler of the Park Hartford
hotel blew up at 5 o'clock this
morning, wrecking the entire front
of the structure, which was a five
story brick building. The entire
fire department and police reserves
were summoned. The ruins took
fire and the work, of the firemen
was greatly impeded by the blind
ing volumes of smoke and steam.
The lots of life is estimated at from
forty to seventy, but may be less.

stated here on good authority that
the proposed excursion through the
Middle, Southern and Eastern States
for the purpose of enlightening tbu
Canadian .members of Parliament as

of this country is to be. a fact and not "'
a fancy. The Matter bas been much
discussed in the newsiapers of late.
Sir John Macdonald was interrogated
regarding it in Parliament last week,
but replied thkt he had heard nothing
of-it officially. Nevertheless the ex
cnrfion has been p.anned and all the
members of the Canadian Parliament
have been invited. It is expected
that about 400 of her Majesty's sub
jects ill accept the invitation, and
about half as many Senators and
Congrescman will be asked to do
honors as guides for, the vuif.rs.
About May 1st the proposed excur
sion will- start. Three solid Pullman
cars will leave the suspension bridge
lor Buffalo,, where the- tour of inspec
tion of Ajiiriciii citizens will begin.
