The fact that our legislature has
passed a hitrh license law brings
the measure directly before the
people of Oregon. Those who have
been allowing matters to take care
of themselves will be fully awak
ened, have ample time for thought,
and those who have been urging
high license noon the people will
have the satisfaction of seeing a
practical demonstration of its
workings. Those who champion
high license must do it from a
revenue standpoint only as it has
been proven beyond a question,
that as a check to intemperance it
is a total failure. . But if our state
can -have a handsome revenue for
internal improvement, the price
paid for the same should not be
