mittee on agriculture to-day ds
cided to report adversely the bill
introduced by Thompson, of Cali
fornia, for the development and
encouragement of Bilk culture in
the United States. The bill pro
posed the creation of silk culture
in the department of agriculture
and establish experimental silk
culture stations throughout the
United States.

ant discovery has been made here
that the control of the barbed wire
patents are not vested in any
American firm or corporation, be
cause a device of barbed wire was
patented in France by Louis Jacin
on Aoril 19. 1865. Under the
United States law this invalidates
the United States patent, and it is
claimed may render the patentees
liable for past royalties collected

Chicago, reb. 13. A special to
the Chicago Times says that it was
reported from North Judson at 6 :'J0
a. m. that Mike McDonald, a well
known Chicagoan, was lust chosen
referee for the Myers-McAuliffe
fight. The fight was then ex
pected to begin in a few minutes,
but the sheriff unexpectedly ap
peared and affairs are once more
unsettled.
THE FIGHT TAKES PLACE.
North Jitdsgk, Feb. 13. A
wrangle over MeAulifle's having
plastered his hands under his
gloves occurred. Finally he was
allowed to put them on. At 0:40
two marshals jumped cn the plat
form and informed those present
that the fight could not go on.
After a long wrangle with the
referee and sheriff, it was agreed
to allow a tioxing mutch and time
was called at 6 :5S a. m. The fight
was a tame affair. .Sixty-four
rounds were fought and the fight
declared a Ira 'v. M yers was very
captious. Neither man appeared
anxious to force a fight.
