prelimnary work of the street rail
way. It was Dot however. The
surveying was for the purpose of
leveling the street nnd trimming
down the surface on the sides, to
conform to the grade, forming a
gutter to remove surplus water,
when thi9 is done First street will
be a credit to the city.
New fire t'ompaay Seeded.
At the last meeting of the city
council the matter of the formation
of a new fire company to take
charge of the lund engine was dis
cussed. The city would no doubt
purchase a hall for the uso of such
a company. The band engine,
which is always one of the best in
the department in the early stages
of a tire, ought not to be allowed to
fall into a state of innocuous desue
tude or to be sold. It is needed
in the department.
Officers Klected.
The incorporators of the Albany
Iron works met yesterday and
elected E. F. Sox, president, and
C. H. Stewart, secret try. The
company have already secured the
contract for furnishing the iron
work for the new flouring mill that
lievi Douglas contemplates putting
in at Harrisburg.

Dr. Neigerwho recently located
in this city from Guurssee N. Y-.
has a tenni of moiist colored mares
valued at $JU0. Each of them
have trotted in 2:20, and the team
