day caused some amusement by
vetoing tre proxies of Secretary
Bayard. Hon. W. H. Barnum re
signed from the directory. Blaine
told an associated press represen
tative, when asked, "Will yon be
the next secretary of state?"
"That question could be better
answered at Indianapolis.''
