THE FIRST IS'AUUUUATION
and the rivvxrr-xixTiL
Within the next six months the
people of this country will have
opportunities lo witness two cere
monial occurrences of National
interest and importance. Each of
these observances will arouse wide
f-prea l entii usiasm and draw
together an immense concourse of
people from all parts of the Union.
A'though the first of them the
inauguration of President-elect
Harrison will, as the Philadelphia
liecord (dem.) puts it, be apt to
awaken regret m the minds of
many who had hoped for a con
tinuance of - the present adminis
trative rule, yet this will not
prevent them from cheerfully
acquiescing in the will of the
majority ami uniting in support of
all commendable measures. In
this particular t le Republic every
four years presents a spectacle that
arouses the respectful wonder of
all the nations of the globe. Uut
tiie second of the coming events
is to celebrate the one-hundredth
anniversary of the inauguration ot
George Washington as President of
tiie United .States As a little
more than a year ago the whole
people participated in the celebia
tion of the centenary of the consti
tution, so, likewise, will the whole
people take patt, in spirit if not in
person, in celebrating the centen
ary of its fitting sequel the eleva
tion of General Washington to the
Chief Magistracy of the young
Nation. Even as marking the
marvelous changes accomplished
in the course of the c ntury the
coming celebration will have about
it a deep significance. The day

DEO EN ERA TING PRACTICES.
The perversity with which
human beings indulge in habits

The human form which is given
