NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN TO THE
owner or keener of an y dog or do(,-s in the
corporate limits of the city of Albany, that
the tax upon such dogs for the year 1888
is now due, and payable to the City Marshal;
and that all dogs 'found running at large
within the city limits, upon which raid tax
has not been pid. will be taken up and dis
posed of as provided by an ordinance "relat
ing to taxing dogs and regulating their run
ning at large." Section one of said ordinance
provides: That it shall be the duty of the
City Marshal on and after tne first day of
Auirust of each year to collect from the own
er or keeper each dog the sum of $1.50, and
for each slut or bitch so owned or kept, the
sum of 33.00.

Martin, employed ;n the auditing
department of Wells Fargo & Co 's
express, was surest i at 3 o'ekvk
tiiis morning on a charge of a. ;ault
to murder. He has b -n keeping
company with an attractive young
woman named Jessie Edwards.
She told him last lrght that he
need not call any more, and gave
him the mitten. Early this morn
ing he saw her comi'iu out of a
house -vith another. He hid Vie
hind the floor of the Temple Bar
saloon on Sutter street, and when
she parsed he tired four shots at
her with a pistol. One ot" the
bullets sti tick her side, but was
stopped by a corset steel, and
merely scratched her abdomen.
He was held in if 1000 bail.

Boston, Sept. 10. John L. Sul
livan, who has been seriously ill
several days w ith gastric fever, is
now reported dying. There is no
otiicial confirmation by the physi
cians, although it is understood
the disease took a very serious turn
for the woise during the night.
No doubt Sullivan's condition is
extremely critical, still Ins phy
sicians refuse any definite informa
tion. At 2 o'clock tliis afternoon
Sullivan's mother and Rev. Fatiier
Hogarty received urgent telegrams
to hasten to the pugilist's bedside.
They immediately left for Crescent
Beach, where Sullivan is under
treatment.

Blaine demonstration in New York
is about to start from its home,
Cumberland, Md., and be rolled to
Hagerstown, Md., on Tuesday and

W. l'trkins, R. P. Kennedy, J. W.
Laird and L. E. McCamas will
meet it and make speeches. The
huge ball will reach Washington
on Thursday and be received by
the national republican league
with a great demonstration. From

West Virginia and Ohio to I ndian
apolis, and then it may go to the
Pacific coast.

discovered a line ledge, in connec
tion with Mr. F.hu-k, which was

discovered decomposed quartz

through this they struck what
they regard a the main ledge.
This is iiee miU'ng, and will assay
about if80 to the ton. This gold
discovery is within twenty-five
miles of Ellensburg. and almost
within sight of the railroad. It is
regarded as the most important
discovery ever made In Kittitas
county. The Swauk olacers for
merly produced heavily, and a
