the ocean to 52 shillings 6 pence
to Liverpool follows immediately
on the advance in the price of
wheat. The price of wheat
advance was predicated upon tl c
supposed shortage from the injury
to wheat in India, bad weather for
harvesting in England and the
falling off of the crop in Russia,
making a considerable shortage in
the wheat crop of the world. This
prospect gives a solid foundation
for a sure advance in price, but, as
stated above, it is met with an ad
vance in charter rates that covers
the margin, and as a consequence
the farmer cannot reap the benefit,
but the shipper gobbles up the fat
crumb with avidity. Charge all
the traffic will bear in his motto.

corporate limits of the city of Albany, that
the tax upon such dojjs for the year 1338
is now due, and payable to the City Marshal;
and thit all dogs found running at large
within the city Kmits, upon which laid tax
has not been pud. will be taken up and dis
posed of as provided by an ordinance "relat
ing to taxing dogs and regulating their run
ning at large." Section one of said ordinance
provides: That it shall be the duty of the
City Marshal on and after the first day of
August of each vear to collect from the own
er or keeper each dog the sum of $1.50, and
for each slut or bitch so owned or kept, the
saiu of S2.00.
