hoarding house into the newly re
fitted building of Mrs. Cheadle on
the corner of First and Baker

the rooms handsomely painted and

steel rails very smoothly.
- THE SANTIAM BRIDGE.
The bridge across the Santiam is
a model railroad bridge. The piers

j Last Monday an eight-year old
daughter of Win. Rodman, of Bear
, creek, was playing in a grain field
1 where her brother was running a
mowei. Unobserved by her broth
er she got in front of the sickle,and
before he could stop the team the
sickle struck ber left leg, inflicting
about twenty gashes bet wen the
ankle and knee. All the tendons
of the back part of the leg were sev
ered and numerous flesh wounds
were inflicted upon the; sides. Dr.
Gesner was summoned and arrived
at Mr. Rodman's almost twelve
ilflirs after the
accident occurred, i

j very much swollen, though was j
i able to dress the wounds, and is of j
j the opinion that the little girl will

Fined Fire Hollar.
An altercation occurred Sunday
evening in the saloon of A. Comely,
which resulted m J. W. Thomas
being ejected from the saloon.
Shortly afterwards they met on
t ie street and the altercation was
renewed, when they came to
blows. They appeared before Re
corder Henton yesterday morning
and paid a fine of $5 and costs
each.

A branch road of the Narrow
Gauge is to be built to Scio, and if
the branch of the O. & 0. is ex
tended to Sodaville, verily railroad
buildincr will boom in Linn county.
This city should be made a termi-

Hershner they obtained a watch,

Helping the liight Side.
To help the right side is not only
commendable in a general poiin, of
