Manlev, Blaine's friend, is

nouncement of the result.
Governor Foraker then took the
platform amid enthusiastic cheers
and said ; "Gentlemen of the con-

came here all Sherman men, they

easier tor us to oe so wnen we re
member that General Harrison had
Ihe good sense to be born in Ohio."

man, and has practiced law from

Montana. Mr. Houghton thinks
Harrison stands a splendid chance

the hottest June day in this city:s
hiscory, there being 99 degrees re
corded in some sections. The list of
fatalities from suustroke is the largest,
ever recorded here in June. Four
men, one woman and five children
were killed and scores of persons

Boston, June 24. To-day was the

Charles E. O'Connor, receiver of
Herbert F. Beecher, son of the late
Henry Ward Beecher, has sued tlm

personal estate left by his father
The balance was paid to Mrs. Beecher.

Washington, June 25. Represen
tatives Morrow and Belmont, the
special sub-committee of the Com
mittee on Foreign Affairs of the
House on Chinese legislation, have
been quietly at work upon a new
Exclusion act and have agreed upon
a lii 1 to execute the provisions of the
e- treaty with China. The bill
will 1 e a substitute for the bills in
troduced by Morrow and Belmort
. id will provide the most rigid terms
?f exclusion that could be divided
under the treaty. The bill is to go
into effect upon the exchange - of
ratification of the treaty, which it is
expected will occur within the next
month or six weeks- The bill will be
called up on the first opportunity,
and it is hoped to have the law on
the statute book by the tme the new
treaty is ratified and exchanged.
