I A French inventor has applied
the miniature electric incandes
cent lamp to watchdials, the cur
,rent being supplied by a small
pooket battery: The dial is of
ground glass and the lama behind
it lights it up, the effect being en
hanced by a fiat reflector. A. kev
is included in the circuit to ciosc
the current when the light is re
quired. It is obvious that there
re circumstances in which such a
device will be useful, and where it
is inexpedient to strike a light to
see the time such places as mines
or in military operations. The ap

A simple method of accurately
cutting a bottle is to place upon
some level foundation and till it
with linseed oil to the point at
which you desire the line of separ
ation to occur. Then take an iron
rod of as great a diameter as will i
pass into the bottle, make it almost
white hot and dip into the oil.
After the lapse of a few moments
a sharp crack is heard and the bot
tle is found to be as neatly cut as
with a diamond, i: u-e bottle b

not heard in a few seconds, a litne
