Sandstoue Quarry.
Hon. Geo. Waggnor, railroad com
missioner, has recently discovered
a quarry of superior sandstone on
his kind a short distance south of
Corvallis, which promises to prove
one of the most profitable stone
quarries in the state. For build
ing purposes it is unequaled, as it

Salvation Army litturb;ui-e.
A disgraceful row occurred on
First street last evening on the ap
pearance of the Salvation Army.
Wm. Price, who had put on a Sal
vation Army uniform, came up
and stood with the Salvationists.
Capt. Stilwell attempted to put
him out of the circle. Price in
sisted on being allowed to stand
where he pleased, and when still
well took hold of him to put him
out Price knocked him down.
Price was placed under arrest and j
gave $10 tMjnds for his appearance
at 2o'clock to-day. Stilwell, how
ever, who did not know this, got
up and roundly abused the officer
and the bystanders generally for
allowing the affair to go by with
out arresting Price. The Salva
tionists soon atterwards marched
to their hall, where arrangements
had been made for some big meet
ing. Died At Corvallis.
Yesterday the remains of James
C. Joseph, of Salem, were taken to
that place for interment. Mr.
Joseph died in Corvallis on the
morning of the 13th inst., after an
illness of one week. He was a
resident of Salem :or many years
and was highly respected tor his
many good qualities. At the time
of his death he was at work on
his contract of laying the founda

A Nez Perce Indian boy ran
away from the Indian school at
Chemawa on Monday and has not
been heard uf since. Parties are

other places, and he will proba
bly be recaptured and brought
back to the school in a few days.

iy County Court of Linn county, Oregon,
will, on Wendesday, the tfth day of Slav, A.
D., 1S38, at one o'clock, p. m., receive sealed
bids for a contract to build fifty rods of rook
and dirt road, commencing on the east end
where the planking commences on Beaver
Slough near widow Ray s and run west over
the ground where the old Beaver Creek
bridge now stands a distance of fifty rods,
by taking the flooring off the old bridge and
la yin it on the ground cross ways as far as
it goes Then use fir poles the rest of the
way until the whole fifty rods of ground in
length is covered. Then cover this with,
rock at least twelve inches thick and ten feet
wide. Then put dirt and gravel about three
inches thick on the rock. There shall be two
culverts in mid rocK road. The first one
about ten rods from the starting point on
east end of the old bridge. The second cul
vert to be about twenty three rods from east
end o said rock road. Each of said culverts
to be made sufficient width for all teams to.
pass, the Board reserves the right to reject
