The fraternizing of European
nations with our own, in any
matter of mutual, interest, is a
matter of great advance towards
that millenium time when war
shall cease and universal brother
hood prevail throughout the nations
of the earth. It is said that the
first instance of the holding of a
regular meeting of an English
scientific society in this countrv
will occur next fall, when the
council of the iron and steel insti
tute of England will meet here,
probably in December. They come
upon the invitation of American
iron and steel manufacturers. Two
hundred and fifty members, in
cluding some of the most prom
inent niatiiifacturers and scientists
of England, Germany, Westphalia,
Sweden, Itafy and Spain have
promised to attend the meeting.
Although this meeting smacks I
somewhat of the commercial effort
to enhance the value of the output
of iron and steel for the manuiac- j
uriug syndicates, still it ha
enough of th it universal peace
hastening quality about it to make
it entirely desirable and highly
comruer.dabli.
