j Contributed by the W. C. T. U.
The prayer meetings held by the
W. C. T. U. this week have been
well attended and very interesting.
It is to be regretted that the im
pression seemed to go out that
these meetings were tor women
only, and, although an invitation
was given through your columns
to all who were interested in the
temjHirance cause, not a man was
present at any of the meetings ex
cepting our ever-present, faithful
friend, Rev. H. P. Webb. For his
presence, prayers and words of
encouragement, we return most
grateful thanks.

Walter T. Mills, the widely
known temperance orator, who is
to visit Albany on the evening of
the 27th, is said by the Eastern
press to be a most logical and
scholarly talker. He is called the
"Phil Sheridan of this mighty
temperance war. Tne Minneapo
lis Pioneer Press says of his
lecture: "It was the play of
Julius Ciesar, with Anthony,
Prutus, Cassius, supernumeraries
and Roman mob all united in one
man. He is an actor as well as an
accomplished orator." We. ho; o
to see this eminent speaker greeted
with a full house, as there is no
dovibt of his ability to entertain
his audience.

EDITORIAL NOTES.
The experience of Mrs. Frank
Leslie will make the unmarried
ladies of the country green with
jealousy. It is reported that she
actually declines proffers of mar
riage at the rate of two each day in
the year. Perlect strangers proffer
hearts and fortunes for her acceptance.
We see by the schedule of ap
pointments for Governor St. John
t iat Albany is not to have him.
This, to our view, seems a little
narrow. While many of our citi
zens have a deep-seated prejudice
against. St. John, there are many
others who would be glad t hear
him as he is, without doubt, an
eminent speaker, and we of the
"far west" have not the privilege
of hearing "great trims" verv often.
