The delegates from nearly all
of the precincts to the democratic
convention which meets in this
city to-day had arrived last night,
and the remainder will be here
this mornir.g. More thar usual
interest is manifested in the nom
nations, and much wire-pulling
andfeaucusing was done last even
ing. The convention promises to
bring a warm contest, as the num
ber of offices is inadequate to the
wants of the candidates. The most
numerous are for clerk and school
superintendent. For the former
tiie names of X. l'ayne, E. E.
Montague, J. 1'. Galbraith and
Jeff Myers stand most prominent.
For sheriff it is difficult to tell who
has the inside track, though the
Forks of the Santiam claim the
privilege of naming the candidate.
The contest for county judge is an
interesting one, and seems to rest

.Bryant. Mr. Gaihraith, who was
mentioned for this office, says posi
tively that he is not a candidate
