A Daily Telegraphic Report of Weather
and Storm Signals.
Arrangements have been made
by U. S. Signal Service Observer
John Briggs, of this city, to re
ceive each evening by telegraph
the signal service weather indica
tions for the next twentv-four
hours. The dispatches will be
printed in the Hebald each morn
ing, and the signals will be dis
played from the Herald office
building and at Burkhart &
Keeney's office on First street.
The report should have commenced
yesterday, but owing to landslides
in Southern Oregon the wires were
prostrated. It will be commenced
probably to 'lay. Following are
the signals' to be displayed and
the:r signification:
Red moon Much heat; rising
temperature.
Red star Less heat; stationary
temperature.
Red crescent Least heat ; lower
temperature.
Blue moon Much moisture ;
gen- ral rain or snow.
Blue star Less moisture: local
rain or snow.

The landslides on the California
& Oregon road have hemmed in
two passenger trains at Sissons,
having on board between 100 and
200 passengers. The trains were,
on their way down from Portland
and have been "dirt-bouud" since
Sunday. On that evening an at
tempt was made to convey pas
sengers by wagon to Dunsmuir,
but advices being received that the
staire road from the latter place
South was waslied out, it had to be
abandoned.
Owing to the imperfect working of
the wires but meagre information
about the belated travelers has
been received by the railroad offi
cials. They had plenty of food
.lowever at Sissons, and "on one of
the trains there is a bain-stonning
theatrical company that is giving
matinees and nightly performances
at the Sissons hotel.
Everything is being done to
have the track cleared before the
end of the week, and according to
what Superintendent of Track
Curtis said to-day a number of
miners have been set to work sluic
ing the debris in several places.
In addition 700 men are now at
work with pick and shovel.

have been compelled by the irreg
ularities of trains to make a num
ber of changes in their engage
ments, and it has kept four or five
men busy keeping track of their
dates in this city. A dispatch rc
ceived last night states that they
will only play one night, Friday
in this city, and will present
"Nanon." This will be acceptable
to the public as it one ot thy best
pi ays .

The information contained in
the report of the building com
mittee of the W. C. T. U. to the
dedicatory meeting on Tuesday
evening will be of interest, and we
have procured and give the report,
also Rev. H. P. Wrebb's dedicatory
sentence.
BUILDING COMMITTEE REPORT.
The ladies of the union have re
quested the building committee to
make a statement to-night. We
give only a condensed report, as
details would not be interesting to
most of those present. Some six
or seven months have passed by
since the first effort was made
toward the building of this hall.
It has cost as it stands $1407.50.
Of this amount we have paid at
present $678.95, leaving a balance
of $728.55. This we do not owe to
contractor or workmen, but to
friends from whom we have bor
rowed the amount. This we hope
to be able to jay in the near future.
Of the amount already paid
$224.45 was taken from the treas
ury of the W. C. T. U. Tiie
balance, $454.50 was donated to us
by our friends, and we take this
opportunity to publicly express our
gratitude "to all who have kindly
aided us in this undertaking. We
will strive to make the best use ot '
the talents with which you have I
