PRESENCE OF MIND.
, I
For the safety and welfare of in- j
dividuals and assemblies, there is j
no more eitieacious habit than ;
presence of mind and prompt j
action in time of peril. Life and '
limb are often preserved by their
practice, and buddy harm in nine;

cases out ot ten prevented.
A recent ine'dent at a fire in a
Chicago public school illustrated
this subject finely. A tire was dis
covered in the puolie school build

lower halls thev discovered smoke ;
and became niimanageal'le, but so
niuchr.ler and precision had been
maintained that all escaped with
out injury, and with but iittle ex
citement. In the meantime at;
alarm had been turned in, arid iy

Then the little ones had a jubilee
while getting their wraps and hats,
