Robert Harrison had the misfor­
tune to cut his unkle severely while
hauling a piece of timber one day
last week for Capt. Whitney’s saw
mill.
A four-horse wagon load of sup­
plies arrived at Eckley Tuesday
evening from Myrtle Point with
supplies for William Ward, who
has located a placer claim on Rusty
Gulch, a tributary of the south
sixes.
Mr. Allen, the gentleman from
New York, who purchased the
Ticlieuor tract of laud near Eckley,
has a couple o f men building an ad­
dition to the house that C. \V. Zu-
malt and Holmes built when they
were prospecting for coal.
Mr.
Allen is expected to arrive any time
from New York, when it is expected
he will inaugurate development
work prospecting for coal.
C. A. i [nines, Ted and Ed Wells
mado a trip out to Roseburg and
back last week. They wont as wit­
nesses for a gentleman in Portland,
who made final proof on a timber
location.
It is reported that George Hall
and parties in Myrtle Point who
were interested with him have sold
their quartz and placer propositions
on Poverty Gulch for $2,200.
About July 1st, or as soon ns the
road becomes passable from Myrtle
Point to Eckley so supplies can be
hauled in, Cnpt. Whitney, foreman
of Commander Mimng <fc Milling
Company, will put on a force of
thirty or forty men to build a
flume and digging a ditch to carry
the water of south Sixes to mine
and old river channel the company
has located.
Professor Choate, of Portland,
was in this week looking at the coal
proposition on the Tichenor tract
of land owned by Mr. Allen.
