A Novel Suggestion.
A Kansas City paper has recent
ly suggested to the committee ap
pointed to design fitting represen
tation for that burg at the St. Louis
Fair that it turn its attention to se-
■curing moving pictures of the actual
everyday life o f tho town, as it is
manifested in the busiest streets.
It is proposed by the paper that a
picture-taking machine be mounted
on an automobile, to be run rap
idly through the principal business
streets, the parks, along the boule
vards and through the various resi
dence sections of the city, the re
production to represent a panoram
ic view , of the town as a visiting
stranger would view it. There may
be merit in such a suggestion as ap
plied to other places than Kansas
City.
What the practical difficul
ties might be in the successful con
summation of a scheme of this char
acter would have to be demonstrat
ed probably by test.
But if the
idea could be carried into effect so
that the pictures could be produced
clearly and accurately, there could
hardly be a better advertisement or
a more attractive exhibit made by
any municipality where a great
amount of business is transacted, or
where there are views of civic beau
ty or natural scenic grandeur to ex
hibit. As applied to Oregon, and
especially in tho vicinity of Port
land, such views could not prove
otherwise than highly entertaining.
All the charm of a ride through the
beautiful suburbs of this city could
be. extended to the visitor at the
state headquarters in St. Louis, and
beyond that what a treat could be
given in a moving picture trip on
either the Willamette or Columbia.
If for Kansas City there should be
genuine me'rit in this suggestion,
for Oregon it would be far more
valuable.—Telegram.
This idea was advanced by some
of our people a year or so ago, to
be carried on in the way of a pan
oramic or picture show to be back-
ed and supported by our enterpris
ing people and sent through the
eastern states by a competent per
son capable of giving lectures, ex
plaining about the pictures and
giying truthful statements concern
ing our climate, natural resources
and advantages for settlors in a
general way.

Now that the law against killing
elk in this state expires next year,
it is certainly a fact that our legis
lators should see to it that there be
a law enacted containing the pro
tection of these noble animals of
which there are so few-left. There
is no question but every little band
in Coos county ¡ b spotted and ani
mals numbered, and if the law is
allowed to expire for any length of
time it is doubtful if one would be
left-

violation of our present law, but
we have reason to believe that
most of these were killed by out
siders, and if this could be watched
a little closer, there is uo question

good things, but when organized
for purpose of mutual jolification
have no place in school.
Laura Hatcher has been delayed
at home this week on account of the
sickness of her mother.
It is time to say that the Winter
term will open on tho first Monday
in January.
We are expecting a
good opening,
and a splendid
winter’s work. We have assuranco
of material to do such work.
The minister will preach at Myr
tle Point in Carter’s Hall, morning
and evening next Sunday.
A liberal offering was taken Sun
day for tbe Church Extension Soci
ety. This society has helped 741
churches to build or to complete

being among the number.
Myrtle Point Sunday School is
ahead on the first month of tbe
contest.
The prize banner, a
beautiful blue silk, lias been order
ed from Chicago.
Next Sunday evening an interest
ing program wil1 be given. The
evening will be in charge of tbe
ladies of tbe Church who promise
an interesting hour of songs, recita
tions aud btief addresses.
The Aid Society will meet Thurs
day with Mrs. Hnngate. Work for
all.
The young Peoples S. S. Club
will perfect their organization for
spiritual and social growth at Mrs.
B. H. Burns Tuesday evening.
There is going to be a good lot
of work done in the near future in
the way of getting up a respectable
exhibit for Coos county whioh it is
proposed will be used at our next
state fair as well as the St. Louis
exposition and Lewis and Clark
centenial at Portland. There should
be no pains spared to get up a
first-class exhibit.

a supposed thieves’ resort, the
police, instead, have stumbled upon
a counterfeiters’ den. In his effort
to escape, Charles Belknap engaged
in a struggle with Sargeant Miller
and was overpowered and anested
