Repeal These Bad Laws.
Ascendancy ol the Country Press
Marshfield Ban.
Country newspaper men are be
coming an important factor in the
development of Oregon. Formerly
the papers of the metropolis gov
erned the destiny of Oregon, but in
these Litter days the country press
are shedding their swaddilug clothes
and stepping into the arena with
the metropolitan journals, and their
influence on legislation and public
matters is shaping' (he course of the
newer Oregon.
If the country
press declared today against a $500,
O0O appropriation lor tho Lewis
and Clark Fair, the Legislature
would not have the temerity to
pass tho measure over the veto of
the country dailies and weeklies
Likewise,
the position of the
country press on Senatorial matters
is the Legislator’s safe criterion
for that demand reflects the wish of
the lawmaker's constituency, nml
where he has failed to respect that
wish his voice is rarely ever heard
again in tho Legislative halls. Yes,
this is the day of ascendancy for
the country nrflss in Oregon, and
it 'a well for " Yiffe state that such is
the case. It is Oregon's safeguard
against rank, political corruption
and unwholesome legislation. It is
the time reflector of tue genius of
the state.—Eugene Register.
