Mark J. McNamara, o f Crescent
City, was shot and killed on Sun
day evening,
February 3rd, by
Patrick H. Gay, in fion t o f the
American Hotel of which McNa-
Narnara was proprietor. Gay had
a had reputation as a gambler and
had been barred front playing cards
by McNamara, aud after threaten
ing to kill him, he got bis horse
and revolver hui ! returning to the
hotel couimeuctd shooting at a dog.
McNatnnia ordered Gay to leave.
Gay then took a shot at McNamara.

killing him almost instantly. Gay
tied but afterward returned and
gave himself up.
